Private Business Wealth Concentration: Risks and Opportunities

For many of you, your family’s largest asset is the private business you own. At this Food for Thought program, Aspiriant wealth advisors will share insights about the risks … and opportunities … that concentrated wealth presents.

Aspiriant will provide perspectives and real-life examples geared toward helping private business owners manage risk across multiple generations, using valuable strategies to build wealth within and around the family business. Being aware of the large array of planning opportunities and creating an environment for proactive decision-making can help you overcome both the operational hurdles and the psychological barriers that very often impede taking full advantage of a family business.

Key takeaways:

  • Understand the role the family business plays in each generation’s risk tolerance and risk appetite.

  • Discover proven techniques to improve diversification while you continue to invest in your family business.

  • Define, coordinate. and optimize your business, family, investment, and philanthropic goals.

In addition to Mary Ellen Krueger and Nate Kublank, of Aspiriant, the presentation features Tim Kochis, co-founder and former CEO and chairman of Aspiriant. He has more than 45 years of experience advising business owners and corporate executives on concentrated wealth and business succession planning. Tim is the author of Managing Concentrated Stock Wealth and co-author of Success & Succession, a best-selling book on succession planning for investment advisors. Tim earned a JD from the University of Michigan, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and his B.A. from Marquette University where he was honored as Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2017.
