Ryan Brothers Ambulance Exemplifies Succession Planning Done Right
October 17, 2018
Ryan Brothers Ambulance has been a Family Business Center member since 2004. We thank them for the years of family business knowledge they are able to bring to all our programs.
Ask any family business owner what the hardest thing to plan for is, and many of them are going to tell you that it’s the transfer of the business from one generation to the next. Sometimes it is a smooth and simple process, especially when family members have been involved in the business for years. Other times, it can be a bit trickier. One organization that successfully completed its succession process is Ryan Brothers Ambulance.
Ryan Brothers Ambulance was founded in 1962 by, that’s right, the Ryan brothers. Pat and Paul Ryan successfully grew the organization from a small shop into one of the most well-known and trusted ambulance services in the Madison, Wis. area.
Sadly, in 1994, founder Paul Ryan passed away. It was at this time that Pat Ryan became the sole head of Ryan Brothers Ambulance. He continued to lead the company until 2004 when he sold the business to his sons Erin and Patrick, once again making the owners of Ryan Brothers Ambulance the Ryan brothers.
Today, Ryan Brothers Ambulance operates within a 100-mile radius of Madison. There are three stations located in Madison, as well as several others located in surrounding cities including Fort Atkinson, Deerfield, Sun Prairie, and Janesville.
