John, a curious young boy, grew up in St Louis, Missouri with his family. On one fateful day, his life was changed forever, and he suffered third degree burns that covered one hundred percent of his small body.

John shared stories of his personal heroes that served as his inspiration, gave him the push that he needed to continue forward on his long journey of recovery, and proved to be a strong source of love and support.

Through sharing his story and incorporating tips that can be applied in family business settings and relationships, John encouraged and reminded the audience of the importance of nourishing the “simple things” that often go overlooked.

John encouraged the audience to jot down some key points that were mentioned during the Live Inspired presentation, some of which are listed below:

  • People are watching your actions, be a different example and give them something that is worth being imitated.
  • There are two great motivating forces in life; fear and love. Love is not easy.
  • Momentum is very hard to stop.
  • Lower your expectations for others and raise your expectations for yourself and who you should be.
  • Silent gratitude does not help anyone.
  • Victor Frankel, “When you know your why, then you know your how.”
  • If you don’t have the “why” pushing you forward, you will burnout.
  • So much of life is the audacity to show up and engage.
  • When things are going well in our lives, we seldom recognize it in the moment.
  • Listen through the place of great love, it will change what you hear.
  • You make the decision to thrive.
  • Great leadership is about seeing what’s wrong and trying to make it better.
  • Ask yourself, “What more can I do?”
  • When your eyes are shut, you are able to hear.
  • Leadership is not a drive by, it comes back again and again, and builds a relationship.
  • Great leaders meet people where they are and listen.
  • If you don’t participate, you can’t complain.
  • Your life matters, act like it.
