Nextgens joining their family business have unique opportunities, yet also face unique challenges. Working for a mother or father who leads the family business often presents nextgens with two distinct struggles: to become credible and comfortable on the business stage, and to achieve the inner confidence to lead while in the shadow of family members whose record of success is well-known. This presentation will use a workshop and panel format to focus on how family businesses can assure that nextgens successfully develop as leaders and fully contribute to the legacy and ongoing success of the business.

Key takeaways:

  • Recognize the significance of the nextgen transition
  • Explore ways nextgens can manage and overcome the challenge of developing credibility while in the shadow of a parent’s success
  • Understand how parents and other business leaders can support nextgens in their career and leadership development within the family business
  • Learn from peers about how to prepare for the next generation of leadership
