Reynolds Transfer & Storage’s Story

Anna Gault Reynolds started the Madison-based Reynolds Transfer & Storage, Inc. over 100 years ago. When she started the company, it was originally a pie delivery service with four rigs and 10 horses in a barn next to her house on East Mifflin Street in Madison, WI.

“Over the years we have moved everything from granite for the rebuilding of the State Capitol in the early 1900s to patients in hospital beds to very heavy transformers weighing 625,000 pounds,” says Natalie Evans, one of two vice presidents on the current management team. “Although our specific services have evolved, we remain a service company at our core and value each and every one of our customers.”

Evans is part of the current management team along with Tom Reynolds, Ben Reynolds, Eli Reynolds, and Maddy Reynolds. Over its 134-year history, the company has held strong in its values of safety, service, and sustainability as well as a devotion supporting the Madison community.

FBC Impact

Evans is not the first generation of her family-owned business to join the Wisconsin Family Business Center. “I know my dad attended but then took a break. We rejoined in 2013 or 2014, and I have been attending since 2015,” Evans says.

In addition to attending FBC-sponsored events, Evans says she also loves being a member of FBC’s Future Leader Peer Group. “The other members provide a great sounding board for working through issues large and small and perspective about the challenges and joys that all family businesses face.” 

Evans has enjoyed learning and discussing many topics related to family business as a member of FBC. One of the most important subjects she has found covered is succession planning. “Even if you don’t think X or Y will happen to your company, try to make a plan,” she says. 

Evans is quick to point out the value she finds in all FBC programming. “All family businesses, whatever size and revenue, struggle with many of the same issues. Even if I don’t think a topic will be relevant, I always walk away with something new.”
