How To Influence Without Direct Authority

  • How To Influence Without Direct Authority

Continuing Education Units

1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Overview

Very few people have all the formal authority they need to get their job done — we are reliant on others across the organization (who don’t report to us) for decisions, solving problems, and executing tasks. Where our authority ends, influence picks up.

You will learn a six-part framework for building and applying influence. You will apply this in both a case study and to a specific influence situation you are facing. In addition, you will analyze the partnerships you have in your organization, assess your flexibility and knowledge, and learn tools for preparing, conducting, and following up on influence dialogues.

Influence in organizations has a strong collaborative element. The organization benefits when team members approach influence in a wholistic, partnership-based way because this ensures that ideas are considered, alternatives are explored, and trust is built in a sustainable manner.
