Designing, Implementing, and Harnessing an Effective Board for Your Family Enterprise

May 13, 2021

Online via Zoom / In-person**
8:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Presented by Babetta von Albertini, Institute for Family Governance

A Board of Directors is tasked with resolving various issues and providing guidance, with the ultimate success of the business as a top priority. Family members can rely on the board to make unbiased business decisions that may otherwise be impossible to reach.

This program will be divided into two parts: first, we will focus on how to build a first-time active board and will address typical fears and misconceptions of controlling owners, including the reluctance of bringing in independent board members. Second, we will focus on how to maximize the value of an active board as the company evolves over time.

Key takeaways:

  • Learn to think strategically about the design of your board
  • Define the skills and capabilities family and independent directors need for your board to be effective (filling the gaps through a board matrix, etc.)
  • Learn how to develop family members for board service
  • Tips for managing the board’s relationships with key stakeholders: the owners, the family and the executives

An afternoon round table discussion will be offered with this program. Visit uwfbc.org for details.
